10 Steps to Emailing Success

Most people have to send emails daily, and many of them send them wrong. Sending unprofessional emails causes many negative side effects. It causes you and your business to not be taken seriously.

Part of the reason for this is that emailing, or any other computer related thing often has a negative connotation of being informal, and meant for younger people. This connotation gets carried onto small businesses, causing them to send extremely informal emails, which are not well written.

Here are the 10 steps to emailing success:

1) Keep your emails short - Don't send really looooong emails. Just send emails that are a few paragraphs long. No more than a couple of pages.
2) AVOID ALL CAPS - This just looks bad. If you don't believe me, just go to your bulk mail box and look at all of the spam email that you get. Yeah, It has lots of capitals.
3) Don't use emoticons (smilies) - I like these 2, but you should never use the for business Sad.
4) Remember to proof read - If you don't you will probably end up saying something, when you were trying to convey a completely different message.
5) Don't procrastinate - Just go in and read, reply to, and send all of the emails that you need to.
6) Read your emails quickly, don't hessitate, or stall - If you leave any room for stalling, your inbox will eventually build up to the point where it will take you many hours to catch up.
7) Remember who you are writing to. Don't be too informal, or too formal - Don't be too formal to one of your friends, and don't be to informal to someone you don't really know. When in doubt however, try to be more formal.
Cool Be to the point- Just say exactly what you have to say, add a salutation, and a greeting, and then send. Don't write any more.
9)Remember that you don't have to always use email - sometimes it makes more sense to use the phone, or face to face conversation to explain your message.
10) Use your own domain name. Make it Name AT YourCompany DOT Com - This looks a lot better than an email with a Yahoo, Hotmail, or Gmail ending.

If you follow these steps, and techniques, and you remember to be professional in all of your emails your company will look much more proffesional, which will shed a possitive light on your company.
